Vintage Yugoslavian M59 and M59/85 Steel Helmet

Original Yugoslavian M59 and M59/85 steel helmets. This was the standard combat helmet of the Yugoslav People's Army from the 1960's to the 1990's. The internal suspension system on both models is similar. But in 1985 the suspension was upgraded to a simpler, more durable, and easier to maintain design. The 2 types are identified in the photos.

These helmets saw use during the Bosnian War, conflict in Kosovo, and later in Serbia. Therefore, you may find a variety of decals/insignia ranging from the original red painted star to applied decals from the interim JNA army, Serbian army or simply repainted plain. There may also be soldiers writing on the inside.
